Yeah, I said it. While not necessarily for everyone, nail polish can be part of your brand! Does that mean manis and pedis can be a tax write-off? I’m not too sure about that one. But it’s definitely something to think about before headed to Alt Summit (in less than 23 days!!!).
Day 5 of my #loveyourbrand 31-day challenge (sign up here) encourages you to get your nails done. This challenge may sound silly, but it’s more important than you think! Both girls and guys listen up… Packaging is extremely important when selling products and even services. How you present yourself (your brand’s packaging) tells your current and potential client how you want to be treated and how much you expect to be paid. And of all the parts to our brand packaging, our nails are one of the easiest things to neglect. Especially as a single mom who works from home. When my kids were younger getting in a shower was a big deal. Think about this scenario – you’re pitching a new client over coffee and your nails are a hot mess. Naked, broken or worse, chipped and peeling. Sadly, people make assumptions based on the strangest and smallest of things when they don’t know you yet. Which is why first impressions can make or break your business.
I once sat through an entire meeting with my hands under the table because of how embarrassed I was about my nails. I felt like an 12 year old girl. They literally looked like my daughters…hot pink with glitter and chipped to the point where some nails were completely bare. OMG! I wanted so bad to clear the air and blurt out “The condition of my nails is absolutely no indication of the quality of the work I will do for you, my work ethic or attention to detail. I promise.” Note that color says a lot as well. My neon pink glitter “Jem Truly Outrageous” polish definitely didn’t express sophistication. My brand’s go-to nail polish color is bright red. If you’re the type of gal who never wears polish, try a clear coat.
Guys, this applies to you too! Imagine trying to land a big contract with dirty, long, unkept finger nails. You may not believe me, but it says a lot about you whether the message it sends is true or not. So take some time to show yourself and your brand some love by trimming, filing, painting your nails. Heck, splurge on a mani/pedi. You deserve it!
